This event serves as a national forum that brings together study program managers, lecturers, researchers, practitioners, and ethnomusicology students from various universities in Indonesia.

The APSEI 2024 activities will take place over three days, from November 22-24, 2024, and will include a series of agendas comprising association forum meetings, a national seminar, academic discussions, and consolidation among ethnomusicology study programs in Indonesia. This series of activities is designed as a platform to strengthen institutional networks and discuss various strategic issues related to the development of ethnomusicology education and scholarship in Indonesia.

On the first day, the APSEI forum discussed several important organizational agendas, including the change of APSEI leadership and the development of work programs for the next period. The formation and strengthening of various divisions within the organizational structure are part of the effort to improve coordination and the effectiveness of program implementation that supports the advancement of the Ethnomusicology Study Program at the national level. In addition, the forum also served as a space for sharing experiences and best practices among study programs in conducting education, research, and community service.

The discussion then continued on various strategic issues relevant to the current development of ethnomusicology. A variety of issues such as curriculum strengthening, development of research based on local culture, digitization of archives and documentation of traditional music, and challenges in preserving cultural heritage amidst technological advancements became topics of joint discussion. The results of these discussions served as material for reflection and as a catalyst for discussion in the national seminar held the following day.

As the main agenda item, National Seminar of the Indonesian Ethnomusicology Study Program Association raising the theme “The Role of Ethnomusicology in Future Indonesian Perspectives.” This seminar features speakers who are representatives from various Ethnomusicology Study Programs in Indonesia. Through in-depth discussions, the speakers and participants will jointly examine the position of ethnomusicology in the context of Indonesian culture, its role in preserving the musical diversity of the archipelago, and its contribution to the advancement of knowledge and cultural preservation in the future.

The diverse perspectives and experiences from each institution enriched the discussion on the direction of ethnomusicology development in Indonesia. The discussion also highlighted various challenges faced, such as changing cultural inheritance patterns, the development of digital technology, the need for innovation in learning, and the importance of expanding interdisciplinary and cross-institutional collaboration. On the other hand, participants also saw various opportunities that can be utilized, including the development of collaborative research, the use of technology for cultural documentation and dissemination, and the strengthening of ethnomusicology's role in cultural diplomacy and the creative industry.

On the final day, activities focused on formulating recommendations and follow-up actions for the forum and seminar outcomes. The recommendations produced are expected to serve as a reference for ethnomusicology study programs in Indonesia in strengthening the quality of education, increasing research productivity, and expanding future academic collaboration networks.

Through participation in APSEI 2024, the Ethnomusicology Study Program at ISI Yogyakarta reaffirms its commitment to continuously contribute to the development of ethnomusicological scholarship in Indonesia. This activity serves not only as a means for organizational consolidation and academic idea exchange, but also as a shared space to formulate the future of Indonesian ethnomusicology in facing various challenges and opportunities in an ever-evolving era.

Editorial: Etno ISIYK

Forum ASPEI 2024 di ISI Surakarta Yogyakarta – Program Studi Etnomusikologi, Fakultas Seni Pertunjukan ISI Yogyakarta berpartisipasi dalam Pertemuan Asosiasi Program Studi Etnomusikologi Indonesia (APSEI) Tahun 2024 yang diselenggarakan melalui kerja sama antara Fakultas Seni Pertunjukan ISI Surakarta dan Fakultas Seni Pertunjukan ISI Yogyakarta.
