Visit of Kediri District Disparbud in the Department of Ethnomusicology FSP ISI Yogyakarta

ETHNOMUSICOLOGY. Friday, October 07, 2022 The Department of Ethnomusicology, Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta received a visit from the Kediri Regency Tourism and Culture Office (Disparbud) at the mini concert of the Ethnomusicology Department. The visit was in the context of an exhibition of the potential of cultural arts, especially traditional music performances owned by Kediri Regency. Present at the event, Ir. Adi Suwignyo, M.Si. as the Head of Kediri District Disparbud and warmly welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta Dr. Suryati, M.Hum., Head of the Department of Ethnomusicology Dr. I Nyoman Cau Arsana, S.Sn., M.Hum, along with lecturers and students.

The series of events began with the singing of Indonesia Raya, followed by a prayer together. Next was an exhibition performance from an ethnic music group brought directly by the Kediri District Disparbud. The group presented four repertoires of musical compositions in collaboration between Javanese Gamelan, Combo Band, and Strings. One of the works presented was titled Calonarang, a legendary story from Bali's Island of the Gods. After a neat performance from the Kediri District Disparbud delegation, it was continued with a musical composition of gamelan collaboration with brass presented by lecturers, students, and alumni of the Ethnomusicology Department of ISI Yogyakarta. After the exhibition performances from the two delegations were completed, followed by a discussion that dissected the work of the Kediri District Disbudpar delegation by academic experts / ethnic music practitioners namely Dr. I Nyoman Cau Arsana, S.Sn., M.Hum., and Drs. Joko Tri Laksono, M.A., MM.

Ethnic Music Performance of Lecturers, Students, and Alumni of Ethnomusicology ISI Yogyakarta

This is the third visit of the Kediri District Disparbud to the Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta. Mr. Adi Suwignyo explained in his speech, that this kind of visit is part of the Kediri District Disparbud program as a form of effort to gain knowledge from academics in the arts. ISI Yogyakarta was chosen because it has a good reputation and is a warehouse for professional artists. The hope is that through this kind of visit will improve the quality of performing arts in an effort to develop Human Resources in the field of Tourism and Culture of Kediri District. Finding the characteristics of Kediri traditional music by exploring the potential of the wealth of local wisdom that is there.

Kediri District Disparbud Group

The Dean of FSP ISI Yogyakarta, Mrs. Dr. Suryati, in her speech expressed her gratitude for the presence of the Kediri Regency Disparbud group in the Ethnomusicology Department of FSP ISI Yogyakarta. Hopefully this kind of collaboration will be maintained and improved, considering that currently ISI Yogyakarta has implemented the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum. In the future, cooperation will be formulated that leads to the MBKM curriculum so that ISI Yogyakarta students, especially the Faculty of Performing Arts, can gain knowledge through internship programs, research projects, events, and so on in Kediri Regency.
