SOTA School of the Arts Singapore and ISI Yogyakarta Hold Indonesian Tradition-based Theater and Music Workshop

Yogyakarta, 26-27 May 2025 - In order to increase understanding and appreciation of Indonesia's rich culture, SOTA School of the Arts Singapore in collaboration with the Department of Ethnomusicology and Theatre of Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta organized a workshop on theatre based on Indonesian traditions.

Get to know the characteristics of traditional theater and music

The two-day workshop was attended by 6 students and 2 teachers from SOTA Singapore. They will learn about the characteristics of traditional theater and music in Indonesia and apply them in short works of approximately 15 minutes.

Experienced Instructors

The instructors were Silvia Purba, (link not available) and Wahid Nur Cahyo, (link not available) from the Department of Theater, as well as Ribeth Nurvijayanto, M.A from the Department of Ethnomusicology, and two students Yahkhanun and Lilo. They have extensive experience in theater and ethnomusicology.

Improving Relationships and Creativity

With this workshop, SOTA students are expected to develop their ability to create innovative and tradition-based artworks. In addition, this workshop is also expected to improve the relationship between SOTA Singapore and ISI Yogyakarta in the field of arts and cultural education.

Thus, this workshop is expected to be the first step for SOTA students to understand and appreciate the richness of Indonesian culture, and can improve the relationship between SOTA Singapore and ISI Yogyakarta in the field of arts and cultural education.
