SMA 2 Lumajang Shows Musical Excellence in Ethnomusicology Workshop ISI Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta, May 26, 2025 - The Ethnomusicology Department of Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta enthusiastically welcomed the visit of SMA 2 Lumajang in an ethnic music workshop that took place on Monday, May 26, 2025. The activity was designed to provide an in-depth understanding of traditional music from Sumatra, Java and Bali, as well as hands-on experience in playing various instruments typical of the three regions.

Participants' Enthusiasm and Musical Expertise
The students of SMA 2 Lumajang demonstrated their excellence in understanding and playing traditional music. In a relatively short time, they were able to play ethnic instruments with precision and deep understanding, which is a testament to their musical intelligence.

The lecturers of the Ethnomusicology Department at ISI Yogyakarta highly appreciated the speed of adaptation and the students“ skills in understanding traditional music concepts. According to Haryanto, one of the lecturers involved in the workshop, ”SMA 2 Lumajang is a school with extraordinary musical potential. The students not only have high curiosity, but are also able to understand and play traditional musical instruments very quickly. This shows that they have mature musical intelligence."

Meanwhile, Warsana, an ethnomusicologist, added, “Their ability to capture the nuances of traditional music is amazing. In a short session, they could already play some folk songs well. This is proof that music education at SMA 2 Lumajang is very effective in developing students” musical intelligence."
