Yogyakarta, May 16, 2025 - The Department of Ethnomusicology ISI Yogyakarta once again welcomed an educational visit from SMA Negeri 12 Surabaya, which was present in the framework of a traditional music workshop. During this visit, the students had the opportunity to learn and play traditional music instruments from *Surabaya.Java and Bali, It is a fun and interactive way to learn more about the richness of Indonesian culture.
With guidance from lecturers and students of Ethnomusicology ISI Yogyakarta, the students explored the beauty of Javanese gamelan and Balinese instruments, learning playing techniques, the philosophy behind each instrument, and the cultural significance of each tradition.
Positive impressions came from ISI Yogyakarta students who participated in this workshop. They were enthusiastic to see the students' interest in learning traditional music and hope that visits like this can further open the minds of the younger generation about the importance of preserving the archipelago's music. Some students expressed that they were happy to see the enthusiasm of the students and hoped that they would continue to explore traditional music after returning to Surabaya.
This activity not only strengthens the relationship between educational institutions, but also becomes a real step in introducing and maintaining the diversity of Indonesian traditional music. The Department of Ethnomusicology ISI Yogyakarta continues to be committed to providing spaces for collaborations and visits that encourage cross-generational art appreciation.
