Yogyakarta – The Ethnomusicology Department of the Faculty of Performing Arts (FSP) at the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta is partnering with Pragita in the formation of Etno Records, a container designed to support the development, production, and dissemination of culturally-based musical works. This collaboration is a strategic step in strengthening the creative industry ecosystem while also opening up broader opportunities for Ethnomusicology students and alumni to develop their work professionally.
The establishment of Etno Records was born from a shared vision between the Ethnomusicology Department of ISI Yogyakarta and Pragita in their efforts to preserve and develop traditional and culture-based music through an approach relevant to the current music industry's development. The presence of Etno Records is expected to serve as a bridge between the academic world and the creative industry, allowing various works originating from the campus environment to reach a wider audience.
Through this collaboration, Etno Records will become a collaborative space for students, alumni, lecturers, and art practitioners to develop various musical projects rooted in the rich traditions of the Nusantara. Not only focusing on the recording production process, Etno Records is also directed to support artistic development, documentation, publication, and distribution of the resulting musical works.
The Head of the Ethnomusicology Department at ISI Yogyakarta stated that the establishment of Etno Records is part of the department's commitment to respond to the dynamic developments in the music industry and students' needs for a sustainable creative space. Through this platform, students will not only gain academic experience but also have the opportunity to understand the professional music production process from the planning stage to work distribution.
Meanwhile, Pragita, as a collaborative partner, views Etno Records as an initiative with great potential in introducing Indonesia's musical richness to a wider audience. The synergy between art educational institutions and industry partners is considered important for creating a creative space that can foster innovation without abandoning the cultural roots that are the main identity of ethnomusicology works.
The presence of Etno Records is also part of the Etnomusicology Department of ISI Yogyakarta's efforts to strengthen academic recognition and contribution in the field of traditional and world music. Through various programs to be implemented, Etno Records is expected to become a center for work development that not only functions as a means of documentation but also as a medium for cultural promotion and art diplomacy.
With this collaboration, Etnomusikologi ISI Yogyakarta and Pragita hope to create an ecosystem that supports the birth of quality musical works rooted in tradition yet able to adapt to the times. Etno Records is expected to become a productive space for the younger generation to continue creating, innovating, and introducing Indonesia's cultural richness through the medium of music to national and international communities.
