Department of Ethnomusicology ISI Yogyakarta Organizes APSEI FGD & International Seminar

At the end of 2022, the Department of Ethnomusicology, Faculty of Performing Arts, Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta held an International Seminar entitled Measuring the Discourse of Ecology, Religion, and Education in Ethnomusicology. This event took place on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the General Lecture Building of the Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta. Present as panelists included Prof.Dr. Victor, M.Ed, (ISI Yogyakarta), Prof. Triyono Bramantyo, M.Ed., Ph.D. Prof. Dr. Shahanum Md Shah (UiTM Malaysia), Dr. Surasak Jamnongsarn (Srinakharinwirot University, Thailand), Kathryn Anne Emerson, Ph.D. (United States), Dr. I Nyoman Cau Arsana, S.Sn., M.Hum. (ISI Yogyakarta). The seminar was moderated by Drs. Krismus Purba, M.Hum, and Drs. Joko Tri Laksono, M.A., M.M.

This seminar is the result of the collaboration of the Department of Ethnomusicology FSP ISI Yogyakarta with the Association of Indonesian Ethnomusicology Study Programs (APSEI) and the Indonesian Ethnomusicology Society (MEI). Drs. Sukoco, M.Hum, as the chairman of the committee said that seminar activities both on a national and international scale became an annual program organized by the Department of Ethnomusicology FSP ISI Yogyakarta. This international seminar is the first time it has been held in a hybrid format after the implementation of the social distancing pandemic covid 19. Prof. Drs. Mauly Purba, M.A., P.hD. as chairman of the Indonesian Ethnomusicology Society explained that this activity was an implementation of the Indonesian Ethnomusicology Society (MEI) program, namely organizing various activities of research, documentation, performance, training and advocacy of music in a cultural context.

Vice Rector I Dr. Hanggar Budi Prasetya, M.Si. representing the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta in his speech said that this activity was a sign of good relations between the Department of Ethnomusicology ISI Yogyakarta with the Association of Indonesian Ethnomusicology Study Programs (APSEI) and the Indonesian Ethnomusicology Society (MEI). The theme of Measuring Ecological, Religious and Educational Discourse in Ethnomusicology is very relevant to the current global situation, where wars occur everywhere both religious and geopolitical issues, climate and food crises are also a serious concern by the world community. Through Ethnomusicology, it is expected to produce constructive knowledge discourses in resolving these global issues.

One day earlier, on November 11, 2022, it was held Focus Group Discussion (FGD) members of the Association of Indonesian Ethnomusicology Study Programs (APSEI) at the mini concert of the Department of Ethnomusicology ISI Yogyakarta. Present on the agenda were structural representatives of Ethnomusicology Study Programs in Indonesia from various universities including ISI Yogyakarta, ISI Surakarta, University of North Sumatra, Mulawarman University of East Kalimantan, and the Jakarta Institute of Arts. The APSEI FGD in 2022 discussed the collaboration of Ethnomusicology study programs in order to organize the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) program. The results of the FGD resulted in a memorandum of understanding in implementing MBKM, the results of which will be realized in the next semester or new academic year.
