Bregada Rakyat: Imitative-based Innovation
Bregada is another name for brigade which means group of soldiers. This marching art, which refers to a group of soldiers from the Yogyakarta palace, is a new spectacle for tourists visiting the cultural city of D.I. Yogyakarta. The history of Bregada's development is quite long, starting from the royal era to the colonialism era. The function of Bregada has changed from its main function as a guard and royal army to a cultural attraction show that is in demand by the public (Yuwono: 2009). Therefore, the people in Yogyakarta took the initiative to create a group or marching group with the concept of imitating the palace warrior group, namely bregada. Bregada Rakyat consists of various elements in society so that there are many interesting things in this cultural attraction group.
In 2021, to be precise, in November the Tourism Office together with the Culture Office created an activity agenda in which Bregada Rakyat had an important role in it, the activity was entitled Bregada Rakyat Malioboro. One of the Bregada Rakyat groups that participated in the Bregada Rakyat Malioboro performance was the Bregada Rekso Winongo group. Bregada Rekso Winongo is a cultural attraction group with the concept of imitating the Palace soldiers who are on the banks of the Winongo river, hence the name Rekso Winongo. Bregada Rekso Winongo can be understood as transfer of discrete musical traits (In music, there is often a borrowing of special features from a musical culture. The concept explains that Bregada Rekso Winongo borrowed the bregada in the Yogyakarta Palace, which is a small part of the transculturation that is very likely to occur. (Nakagawa: 2000).
This paper will describe the position of Bregada Rekso Winongo in the context of function for the community in Yogyakarta with an ethnomusicology approach. The ethnomusicology approach focuses on the discussion of text studies and context studies. The text is the musical part that is the subject of discussion about the music and its supporting musical aspects, while the context is a discussion of the community environment that is affected by the musical aspects of the art.
Bregada Rakyat for the People of Yogyakarta
Bregada Rakyat Malioboro is a forum for the Bregada Rakyat community around the Malioboro tourist environment, as well as a marker of the area and becomes a tourist attraction. icon culture of Yogyakarta City, especially the Malioboro tourist area. This can be seen from their enthusiasm to record the group's performances. Not a few tourists took selfies with Bregada Rekso Winongo personnel. The personnel who consider that, this event is a cultural attraction. refreshing for them during their routine with various work backgrounds.

This phenomenon can certainly be an encouragement for cultural arts actors and local governments to innovate to present cultural arts packaging that is beneficial for the welfare and right on target for the people of Yogyakarta in particular and Indonesia in general.
